James D. Bonamassa, CPA, MS (TAX), JD - Founding Partner
James founded what has grown to become Bonamassa, Maietta & Cartelli, LLP in 1985 after several years of tax and accounting experience. At that same time James began attending Law School at St. John's University earning his law degree in 1987.
Much of James' practice deals with the taxation of corporations, individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies, estates and trusts. He is involved in all aspects of his business client's tax planning from the acquisition, operation and disposition of businesses to individual income and estate tax planning. James has had extensive experience in representing clients before the IRS, New York State and other taxing agencies. Additionally, he has served as an expert witness in a number of litigation matters.
James' client list includes professional services firms such as physicians and attorneys, real estate entities, wholesalers, retailers, equipment leasing and trade contractors.
James is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and the Brooklyn Bar Association.
James is also very active in many charitable organizations in his community and has been a member of many youth activity boards.
James received BBA (1979) and MS (TAX) (1983) degrees from Pace University where he completed each program with honors. In 1987 James received his law degree from St. John's University where he was also awarded the Prentice Hall Student Award in Taxation. James is a licensed CPA in New York State and a member of the New York State BAR.
Lawrence F. Maietta, CPA, MBA - Managing Partner
In 1991 Larry joined with James D. Bonamassa to form Bonamassa & Maietta, CPAs. Prior to their association, Larry spent more than ten years at a CPA firm in Manhattan, serving as an audit partner there during his last five years.
Much of Larry's practice deals with providing services to the firms’ many clients in the insurance industry. Larry has vast experience providing auditing, accounting and tax services to insurance companies through his nearly thirty years of experience in servicing insurance companies. In addition, Larry provides accounting, tax and consulting services to a wide range of other types of businesses as well as individuals, estates and trusts.
Larry is a member of the American Institute Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He also is a member of the Board of Directors and an advisor to the Audit Committee of United-Guardian, Inc., a manufacturer listed on the NASDAQ.
Larry received his BBA degree in 1980 from Niagara University and an MBA degree in 1988 from Hofstra University. Larry is a licensed CPA in New York State.
Vincent J. Cartelli, CPA
Vincent became a partner of the firm in 2000 after several years of auditing and tax experience. At that time the firm became Bonamassa, Maietta & Cartelli, LLP.
Much of Vincent's practice deals with providing auditing, accounting and tax services to the firms’ insurance industry clients. In addition, Vincent provides tax, accounting and consulting services to clients in real estate, trade contracting, equipment leasing and food & beverage industries as well as professional service firms such as physicians and attorneys. Vincent also assists clients with the implementation of accounting systems and controls.
Vincent is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Vincent received his BS degree in 1996 from Brooklyn College and is a licensed CPA in New York State.
